COACH KEN: Leveraging Technology

We hear so much about the “modern world of technology” that offers convenience, ease of use and the latest innovations. Unfortunately, the same technology carries with it the feeling that the modern world of business has lost the “personal touch.” One thing that has never changed over time is the power of personal relationships. I believe that technology, if used correctly, can grow relationships with greater impact than ever before. In fact, we help commercial and fleet operations across the country do just that, grow the personal side using today’s technology.  Here is a quick overview of how we can help dealerships, businesses and manufacturers leverage technology to grow their business while solidifying existing relationships. We use several technological tools to accomplish this on a consistent basis.

Electronic Newsletters- Our newsletter, “The Truck Stop” goes out to hundreds of dealerships across the nation. We provide marketing and sales tips, as well as highlighting innovations in the industry.  We also provide this service for dealers. We custom design the electronic newsletters and send them on behalf of the commercial and fleet departments via the Internet. The companies and individuals that receive these newsletters don’t know that we exist, and all the credit goes to our clients! We include two articles.  One is giving businesses tips on sales and marketing.  The second article is a motivational story which appeals to everyone. This has been a great way to stay in touch and it keeps you at the top of their mind. We also feature a “Vehicle of the Month” that the dealer sends to us.

Live online training sessions! Zoom.com provides a great service where you can interact with both customers and prospects. You can provide training (You can use PowerPoint slides while you are presenting), and you can even interview industry guests, such as upfitters and manufacturers. You can see all the participants during the program and add a personal touch.

YouTube- One of my good friends, Keith Couch of Rush Truck Centers, is a master at using YouTube for video walkarounds that get a lot of traffic. Keith is a superstar in our industry, and it is easy to understand why. He takes customer relationship management to a whole new level. It is not uncommon for Keith to get thousands of views! His top two videos got over 645,000 views and 562,000 views. That’s over 1.2 million views!  Go to YouTube and type in “Rocky Mountain Peterbilt” to look at his videos.

Two of my favorite software tools to create great online marketing and advertising are Camtasia and Snagit. Both of these software products are provided by Techsmith (www.techsmith.com). The two products can be purchased in a bundle to save money. Snagit allows you to easily capture both photos and videos from online sources like your inventory page. Camtasia is a video editor that allows you to produce great video presentations. You can take the captured video and photos from Snagit, or any source, and put together a first-class advertisement, a customized presentation to a specific prospect or customer (using their name and company in the presentation), and even use them on your YouTube channel and other social media.  What a great way to “multi-purpose” your video! You can also use them in other social media platforms like Facebook, Linkedin,Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest.

Saving time- It would take a lot of time out of your day to sit in front of a computer and post to all of these different social media sites.  Here’s the good news – you don’t have to! www.hootsuite.com does it for you!  Hootsuite is what’s called a “scheduler software.” It allows you to take your videos and posts and with one click post them to numerous social media outlets. I don’t advise using Hootsuite until you are using at least five separate social media sites.

In a separate article I will give you tips for the major social media sites like Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, and others.  If you choose just two or three of the ones mentioned in this article and work them consistently, you will grow your business and save money! I have a quote I use often, “The road to the extra mile is never crowded.” It’s time to hit that road!
