TRANSITS IN THE FIELD: PLUMBING IN THE PANDEMIC

AUSSIE PLUMBING & HEATING UTILIZES KNAPHEIDE’S AWD TRANSIT

he 2020 Ford Transit Van equipped with the new all-wheel drive option is a game changer for those who work in areas that experience icy, snowy, or muddy conditions. At Knapheide, we have noticed customers who get behind the wheel of the Transit AWD are sold. We interviewed one of our newest customers that recently purchased a 2020 Transit AWD cutaway equipped with a Knapheide Utility Van from Phil Long Ford in Denver, Colorado. Here’s what he had to say:

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND COMPANY.
My name is Chris White. I started my own business, Aussie Plumbing and Heating, about 10 years ago. I have been a plumber for 24 years in the Aspen Valley, Colorado area. At Aussie Plumbing and Heating, we pride ourselves on being honest, professional, and treating everyone with respect. It is also important to always look presentable. We all wear a uniform and we take pride in the appearance of our work trucks.
There are five guys on the team, all knowledgeable and experienced to provide great service. Each employee has a work vehicle with our name and logo that is equipped with the necessary tools to get the job done. At the end of the day, it is all about knowledge, honesty, and professionalism. With that, we have found we are hard to beat.

YOU PURCHASED YOUR FIRST FORD TRANSIT AWD KUV EARLIER THIS YEAR AND YOU ARE ABOUT TO PURCHASE YOUR SECOND. HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THIS VEHICLE?
In January, I was at the International Builders Show in Las Vegas walking around the Ford booth and started talking to representatives. There was a Ford Transit KUV in the booth and they showed me around the vehicle. I fell in love with it. I came home to Colorado, did more research, and I knew I had to add one to the fleet replacing one of our other units. I contacted Phil Long Ford in Denver to order. Soon after running this unit, we placed an order for another.

DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WERE THERE ANY CHANGES TO THE BUYING PROCESS?
Phil Long Ford offered to drive the new Transit to me in the Aspen area. Normally, I enjoy going into Denver to pick up. I would go see a sporting event or do something in the city. In light of what is going on, I may take them up on that offer for our next van, which should be ready soon.

WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER THE “MUST-HAVE” FEATURES ON YOUR NEW FORD TRANSIT KUV?
The AWD option is key for us being up in the mountains. We had a Ram 2WD van and it kept getting stuck in driveways. Our vehicles must be safe and reliable.
The new Transit van we are running and the one we have on order are fully loaded. We also added a lot of accessories from roof racks, organizing bins in side shelves, and the must-have Knapheide Power Locks. I remember running older work trucks and having to lock and unlock each compartment. Technology has come a long way to help keep us more efficient.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE IN YOUR INDUSTRY WHO IS THINKING ABOUT ADDING A FORD TRANSIT KUV TO THEIR FLEET?
The Ford Transit KUV is the “A-Team” vehicle for those that remember the show starring Mr. T. We take a lot of pride in our work vehicles, looking good on the road, and being reliable. We put our name, logo, and phone number on them and we get so much business from our vans. I think probably 90% of our new business is from people seeing our vans driving around.

HOW DOES THE KNAPHEIDE KUV HELP YOUR TEAM ON THE JOB?
The Knapheide Utility Van allows access to our tools from outside of the vehicle without having to jump in and out. Our guy driving the newest Ford Transit KUV has said how much he likes it — great to drive, easy for him to get in and out, and efficient because he is organized and doesn’t have climb in the back of van. Also, it looks great!

We would like to thank Chris White for his time and for trusting Knapheide to help get the job done in the Aspen, Colorado area. We would also like the thank Brian Terpenning, Fleet Manager, and Randy Powell, Fleet Account Manager at Phil Long Ford for their partnership and getting Knapheide work vehicles on the road.

Knapheide wishes all the best to Chris, the entire team at Aussie Heating and Plumbing, and the commercial team at Phil Long Ford. Make it a great day, mates, and as we say at Knapheide, “Never Settle.”
